Rev. Mary Jo Bray was born and raised in Wauseon, and spent most of her ministry career in northwest Ohio. She heard God’s call into the Christian ministry as a high school student at Camp Christian, but took awhile to follow it. She graduated from Bethany College in Bethany, West Virginia. She attended Lexington Theological Seminary in Lexington, Kentucky where she received a Master of Divinity degree, and was ordained by the Christian Church in Ohio in 1990. Mary Jo has served congregations in Clyde, Fayette, Wauseon, and Sylvania.
Mary Jo’s passion in ministry is children and youth. She spent many years on the Ohio Christian Youth Fellowship Commission, counseled and directed CYF conference at Camp Christian. She currently serves on the Ohio Commission on Ministry, mentoring those working towards ordination. Her story was recently featured in a book by Dorothy France entitled, “Dear Church; Intimate letters from Women in Ministry,” available from Chalice Press.
Mary Jo also works as the Spiritual Life Coordinator at Sunshine Communities, Inc. in Maumee where she ministers to individuals with developmental disabilities in many areas of life.
She is the wife of twenty-seven years to Bill Bray who is a photo editor for Pugh Photography, and league publicist for the NWOAL. They are parents of two children. Jacob is 25, lives in Bowling Green, is in college, and works. Emily is 22, currently lives in Tucson, AZ on an internship for the National Benevolent Association as an Xplor Resident.
Mary Jo is an animal lover (if you visit the office on Tuesdays you may meet her sheltie, Bella) enjoys reading, relaxing at the lake, and spending time with her family. She loves to go out for coffee or lunch (so call her with an invitation!) She is excited to begin her ministry with ministry with Hampton Park Christian Church.
